WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Disconnect 7.3 Billion Users Worldwide

Down Detector, a website that tracks service outages, reported over 300,000 problems with Facebook, and more than 25,000 issues with Instagram. Users across the globe expressed their frustrations as they found themselves locked out of their accounts, unable to reset passwords or access their profiles.

The outage is global, impacting users on a massive scale. Over 17,000 users took to Downdetector to report issues with Facebook, owned by Meta. The data reveals that 64% of users faced problems with the website, 22% struggled with the app, and 14% encountered logging service issues.

Claire White, Agency Partner at Why Media, commented:

“When social media platforms go down, it's like losing our digital voice. Our company heavily relies on these platforms to connect with our audience, and the outage disrupts our ability to market and engage effectively. It's a reminder of how crucial these tools are for our daily operations.”

As millions grapple with the unexpected disruption, social media giants are scrambling to address the technical difficulties causing this widespread outage. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the digital dependence on these platforms, affecting users across continents and prompting concerns about the reliability of such global communication networks.
