The Da Vinci Eye App on the new Apple Vision Pro is transforming how people learn to draw using Apple's spatial computing vision. The AR art projector allows users to trace images onto various surfaces by superimposing a transparent overlay through Apple's headset. This creative experience is made possible by harnessing the Vision Pro's passthrough feature, making it the first of its kind.

Available for both iOS and Android, the Da Vinci Eye AR Art Projector app initially allowed users to draw overlaid images by placing their phones over a canvas. However, the Apple Vision Pro version offers a more convenient and natural experience, eliminating the need for paper or stands.

Utilising the headset's video passthrough feature, the app enables users to view their canvas and a semi-transparent overlay of a reference image simultaneously. This opens up new possibilities for drawing or painting on various surfaces, including paper, walls, and bags. The app extends its applications beyond drawing to activities such as sculpting, cutting, stencilling, or even cake decorating.

The app's user-friendly features include the ability to adjust transparency levels by waving a hand and gesture controls to relocate the overlay. For added complexity, users can position the overlay alongside the canvas, requiring them to copy rather than trace. While this functionality might be achievable without a $3,449 headset, the Vision Pro eliminates the need for a physical spot to prop the reference image and provides the flexibility of resizing the reference. The Da Vinci Eye Vision Pro app is set to revolutionise the learning process for artists of all ages, offering a seamless and creative experience.
